Unit: 4 Creating Images Digitally
In this unit you will use some of the latest digital photographic cameras to produce edit and print/exhibit your own digital photographs.

You will get the opportunity to:

· Learn about the functions of a digital camera.
· Take pictures on subjects that interest you
· Use our Mac / PC computers to manipulate and edit your pictures using industry software like Photoshop
· Discuss and Exhibit your photography around the college or online

What you will do

Weeks 1 to 4
1. Knowing the Types/uses of digital images

You will discuss, explore and use different image types.

For example images created on computer using scanner paint tool, drawing tools; images imported into computer using clip art, scanner

You will discuss and explore different uses for photographic images.

For example types of uses eg print, web, decorative, illustrative

Document types: types eg bmp, gif, tiff, jpg

Weeks 5 to 10

2. Using hardware and software to create and edit digital images

You will be learning about and using different hardware. Such as: digital camera, scanner, computer; use eg camera (point of view, frame, focus, view image), scanner (position image to be scanned correctly, scanning to correct software), computer (insert, positioning image, ensuring image is correct size)

You will be learning and using image editing software: uses eg.

colour scanned drawings, pixel editing, to edit brightness and contrast on photographs; creating and saving bitmap images eg gif, tiff, jpg in paint programme; using simple drawing tools to create and save images

You will create work for different purposes of your choice:

eg. print poster, website

Weeks 10 to 12
3. Be able to comment on own work

You will try and Identify how to improve work:

Discussing what went well; what was difficult; changes that could be made to the plan; what others said about their work.

Week 13 (Half Term week)
Referral Week - the opportunity to bring up to spec your portfolio in case there are any gaps!
